BIGBANG Cover Contest - BadBoy video cover ( the making of )

Hello ! 

I really wanted to participate in the BIGBANG Cover Contest ! I had many ideas but at the end I decided to make a paper theater show that reproduces the video of BadBoy. 

I had midterm vacation and I thought there will be enough time to finish my video. Little did I know about how tiring and time consuming my project will be . Still I enjoyed it a lot ! :)

Here I will share with you the whole process of creating the video ! 

Step 01 – Designing the Set  

I followed some fan accounts about the shooting locations for BADBOY in New York and I managed to get the exact address of the place! I have never been in the US but there is Google earth who took me there. 

At the beginning I was planning to make an exact reproduction of the street elevations but when I actually put all the google earth snap shots together and compared them to the video , I saw that this is too large area for me to build . 

You can see here that I actually reconstructed the street elevation and followed BIGBANG down the block to compare where they actually filmed , in what direction they were going and so on . 

Abandoning the idea of exact recreation of the street I decided to be more creative and to turn NewYork into BigBang city . Brooklynway became BIGBANGway and I also altered the shops as to refer to BIGBANG.

The drawing and coloring process 

Step 02 – Creating the characters 

I made BIGBANG and the girls from the video only but I was initially intending to make also the workers and the skaters … but due to a lack of time I made only the main ones .

Step 03 – Building the set 

It was more difficult that it might seem. The hardest part was the bridge. First of all it took me two days to do it – draw it , cut it , glue it , color it … 

The most amazing thing is that it actually stays on his own! I put nail polish ( the whole bottle not the liquid only ) into the base of the colons so that they have enough weigh to stay up . 

The other part of the set was not so obedient and I was tending to fall or move around but I managed it somehow. 

 

 

Step 04 – Filming 

Here the real problems started . Not only some of my figures were constantly falling down but my camera that is already old, had a problem and didn’t want to work. I was in panic and the only thing I could do is … film it all with my mobile phone! LG Optimus saved my life but it was very uncomfortable and difficult process.

   

Nevertheless the difficulties I was enjoying the whole thing . It was hard, it was tiring but it was great ! I felt I am back in school , cutting papers and coloring them with my old paints . It was very refreshing to do something manual and not to use the PC for everything . 

Still all the last process of the video making was made by computer . 

Step 05 – Editing 

I really lost count of how many frames I have edited! There must be hundreds. In the process of doing this I started to get better at it and wanted to go back to the beginning and add more frames where is needed but the deadline was so closed and I didn’t want to miss it .Therefore so I had to finalize it all as quickly as possible . 

I stayed until 5 am last night to upload it and I went to bad totally exhausted.

My video should now be on page 27! 

I am happy that I did this even if don’t get any award. It was fun and now I have some unique memory from my vacation. I am only sorry I didn’t have time to edit it more but maybe like this is better. 

Do you know what was the hardest part of the process ? It was when Fantastic Baby came out and I was so out of space and couldn’t get myself away from the video to work on my cover ! YG , you were trying to distract us so well ! hahah , I am joking ! 

After almost I week spent on this I am happy that is finally done . I cannot sing or play any instruments well , but as you see I have a passion for film making and design and I used all that passion combined with my love for BigBang in creating this video .
